Wolf's Day
Previous - Poetry Home - Next
Slinking silently through the snow,
Paws all wet and cold,
I am the hunter, wherever I go,
A life of slavery, into was I sold.

Pulling a sleigh all day long,
Merciless owner with a whip,
At night, I howl, a piercing song,
In the snow that melts and drips.

My leash, it snaps, I break away,
Into the trees my legs had sped,
In the distance, that man, cussing he'd say,
"You'll curse the day that you were bred!"

Now its on rodents that I feed,
My coat is dank and thick,
Once more, I know that I lead,
And I know it's not a trick.

Through the forest I safely roam,
With a pack I now do hunt,
I now have myself a home,
With the hunted out the front.
