Let Me Be
Previous - Poetry Home - Next
I cower as your blows rain down,
Your face twisted in an unholy frown,
The pain, it comes, I whimper in fear,
How could you do this to one so dear?

I can smell the drink right on your breath,
The pain is great, I long for death,
What did I do, it must of been bad,
To make you drink, and get so mad.

You beat me more, I now see blood,
Through the tears that seem to flood,
The room it fades, it turns to black,
Strength a thing I seem to lack.

The door busts open, the sirens blare,
Frankly I don't seem to care,
They cuff him up, they take you away,
You hope to yourself that he will pay.

Your body broken, you soul now bent,
The last of your energy has been spent,
To prison he goes, without a nickel or a dime,
To pay for his actions, doing hard time.
